Deutsches Museum!!!!
When my sister, Kimberly, told me about the Deutsches Museum in Munich i could grasp how awesome it was.. but actually going there was another story! It kicks so much ass!!! So lets backup - the Deutsches is a large museum focusing on engineering and science topics. If you need an example, think: Smithsonian Air and Space, although this is really like comparing apples to oranges, the Deutsches completely blows away any other tech orientented muesum or exhibit. It really is hard to put into words how incredible this place is, if you are into any of the following topics: engineering, science, physics, math, computers, machinery, astronomy, aerospace, marine navigation, mining, energy topics from a-z you will love this place.
Today, i spent over 1 and 1\2 hours in the mining section alone!! and i didn;t read anything cause they didn;t have english for the section!ßß!! I would still be there right now. Adjectives for all the exhibits: BIG, HUGE, MASSIVE and impressive.
For mining exhibit, you went two or three levels underground, where they constructed replicas of all types of mine shafts and environments. Into these environments they:ve installed ooddles of real mining equipment. Gigantic drills, excavating machines, rail sytems, conveyor belts 3 rooms long. Its dark, dirty and you feel like you are in a mine shaft. It ruled.
Other huge things included: a Bessemer Converter, working water wheels, steam engines, wooden mast ship, an Eniac computer and airplanes. When ever possible, anything on display would have cross sections cut.. For instance this is a drawing of the Bessemer Converter,
See the cross section on teh right? That is what they had standing two floors tall, from a real plant, not a piece of plastic. It was outstanding!!
For now i will stop rambling you until i can post pictures... I unfortunetly underestimated this muesum and may return again before i leave.
Sorry, one more thought: i really loved a very simple exhibit: a dual pendulum. One pendulum with another pendulum at the end.. The patterns of movement you could get out of this were awesome, almost like it had a mind of its own. And all because of the two pendulums connected together and acting off each other..

i would have never guessed you'd spend the whole day in the mining section. Why? Did you dig up any gold?
That's right my friend, the deutsches museum is the most mind-exploding learning adventure i've ever experienced in my whole science life! I'm so jealous that you were just there. I'm jealous of myself for also being there at one time. wowser! mine on, brother-man
